ABOUT THE EVENT

The date of the first ever, Yellow Point Pant and Paddle was Sunday, September 23, 2001 .
Taking place in the pastoral landscape of the Yellow Point-Cedar area (a few kilometres north of Ladysmith on
Vancouver Island , BC ), the Yellow Point Pant and Paddle is open to anyone who can put together a team of friends, family or colleagues (seven members in total). All entrants must be over age 19. The team entry fee is $245. Categories include Open Men’s, Open Women’s, Mixed, and Getting’ On-in-years (age 40 and up with total team age 350 years minimum). All participants receive a commemorative T-shirt and race information kit.

The team race is on a varied route in this scenic rural area. Beginning and ending at the renowned Crow and Gate Pub, there are six race legs: an 8.5 kilometre run, 7 kilometres by canoe across Quennel Lake (2 contestants), 28 kilometres on road bike, 5 kilometres by ocean kayak, 13 kilometres by mountain bike, and finally, a 10 kilometre run to the finish line.

The event was originally organized by a volunteer group of community members, outdoor sports enthusiasts, and area businesses that have been together since the first event in 2001. “The group of local folks putting this together have participated in many similar events, and really wanted to do one locally. All are very much committed to ensuring it is a well organized event.” The 2004 event was cancelled due to some logistical reasons and in 2005 the event was resurrected The Ladysmith Rotary Club became involved as the prime organizing group under the direction of Bob Walch.

Any net income from registrations will be donated to the many projects and programs supported by The Ladysmith Rotary Club.

There are plaques awarded for each category bearing the names of each winning team and displayed in the Crow & Gate Pub with some prizes awarded for various categories at the post event festivities at the Pub.
